The Egg McMuffin has been a staple breakfast item at McDonald’s for more than 50 years. It was created back in 1971, by a franchisee named Herb Peterson in Santa Barbara, California. Back then, it was dubbed as Eggs Benedict on the Go. It joined the Mcdo menu nationwide in 1975.
For 15 years now, the unassuming egg mcmuffin has been my go-to breakfast at McDonald’s. I usually order the meal which comes with hash browns and a small coffee.

Is the Egg McMuffin healthy?
I wouldn’t classify the Egg McMuffin as healthy food. In fact, Prevention.com has quoted a nutrition expert Jessica Cording, R.D., C.D.N., author of The Little Book of Game-Changers as saying:
“It’s got about a third of your day’s saturated fat intake, it’s very low in fiber, has a lot of cholesterol, and includes a good amount of sodium. But when you compare it to a lot of other fast food breakfast options out there from a calorie and blood sugar management standpoint, it’s a better option than a lot of others.”
She also adds that an Egg McMuffin provides a “good balance of protein, fat, and carbohydrates.”
Do Egg McMuffins use real eggs?
According to McDonald’s they use real eggs on their breakfast menu items which are prepared differently for each sandwich.
What time does McDonald’s start serving breakfast?
The breakfast hours and menu at McDonald’s may vary by location as the franchisees and co-ops have their own schedules. However, for the most part, you can get your fave breakfast food around 5AM until about 10:30 AM or 11:00 AM when it ends its breakfast service, and switches to a lunch menu.
How are McDonald’s eggs prepared?
McDonald’s has 4 different egg preparations depending on what item you’ll order. The Round Egg which is what’s used in the Egg McMuffin uses USDA Grade A egg that is cracked into an egg ring resulting in a round shape. The Scrambled Egg uses liquid eggs that are cooked on a grill. The Folded Eggs are made with liquid eggs pre-cooked and then folded, then frozen. It is prepared on the grill and the used for menu items like the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit. Lastly, they use a different egg preparation for the Sausage Burrito which features pre-cooked liquid eggs that come with ingredients such as sausage, green chilies, tomatoes, and onions before flash freezing.

Egg McMuffin Reviews from McDonald’s Customers
Anita
I don’t usually review chains, but this McDonald’s has been bowling me over with its super fast service through the drive thru in the mornings during rush hour(s). I’m zipping through trying to get iced tea early in the mornings, or that occasional egg McMuffin and there is always a long line in the drive thru. But for some reason, they take your order fast and as soon as you pull through to the window to pay, they’re ready with your food which they pass to you, then take your money, give you back your change and then pass you your drink. You NEVER have to wait. I’ve been through drive thrus during non-rush hour(s) where there is no one but me in the line and guess what? I’m waiting 5 minutes for my order. You are truly the fast food of fast food!

I stop by this McDonald’s routinely. I get the egg McMuffin combo with a large coffee. Service is always quick, and the employees are typically very nice.

The Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s is truly a fast food marvel. Ready is three minutes flat, this little breakfast sandwich is the best way to wake up in the morning. Salty ham, rubbery American cheese, and an egg patty all between a soft and smushy English muffin makes the Egg McMuffin a true American Legend. Each sodium-rich bite dances on my tongue. My favorite part is the crumbly texture of the egg yolk, it is so flaky and delicious! Adding to the meal is a oval-shaped disc of hash browns. Only McDonald’s could come up with something as genius as portable hash browns! The handheld potato product is perfect for dipping in ketchup. It is so salty and soft, with just enough crunch on the outside from the deep fryers. The result is stomach-churning heaven! Add a soda or over-sweetened orange juice to the mix, and I can’t walk away without a tummy ache! No matter what, I will always love McDonald’s. No one can stop me.
Is the Egg McMuffin Worth the Price?
Unless you are really hungry, you can have a good breakfast at McDonald’s for under $10. This meal would include an Egg McMuffin, Hash Browns and a small coffee. For me, it’s a good price for what you’re getting.
